Prehistoric Playtime

The other day my sister Emmily brought me home a little gift- a sweet little egg that required my utmost attention and my (up until now absent) nurturing skills.

It has been suggested that I need a life. But here's how it went anyway...

I gave my little egg a kiss...

...Before putting him in a glass of warm water and eagerly awaiting the results. The instructions said it could take up to two days- possibly the fastest growing pet there is.

And then Sunday morning my little dino was born, with a tear in his eye.

I decided he would be a herbivore and his favourite foods would be mushrooms and walnuts.

It's My Party & I'll Cry If I Want To

Today is one of my all time favourite people's birthday- my dear sister Emmily! Of course being twins that usually means that today is my birthday too, ahhh yet another year older, where does the time go?

The last few years my birthdays have brought with them the start to a completely different chapter in my life and this one is no exception! Tomorrow is my last day at work in Canada and then in less then three weeks I'll be heading to Auckland for a new adventure- sheesh I'm not sure how my head keeps up with all this change.

Happy Birthday sweet sweet Emmily xox

Trash & Treasure

So it seems I have been taking a small hiatus where my dear old bloggy is concerned as of late, I've just been so pre-occupied with planning my next step- which I will be sure to share with you all soon! But being brief, it seems my time in Canada is almost at an end and in a few short weeks it is time for me to pack my suitcase and move on again. Where does the time go?

Anyway enough about that for now. I wanted to show you all this wonderful little painting print that I acquired yesterday from a neighbours spring cleaning pile down the street from my house. I love that time of year when everybody piles their no longer beloved items out the front to be swept away by the garbage man- because like they say one man's trash is another man's treasure!

After some further research the name of the poster is Maurin Quina and it was painted by Leonetto Cappiello in 1906 as an advertisement for a type of liqueur that is no longer in production. Isn't it lovely, a little sinister but in the nicest possible way! What do you think?

Smells Like Teen Spirit

Happy Thursday Morning Folks! Oh how lovely it is to wake up to the bright sunshine streaming through my window, as opposed to grey clouds and rain- definitely makes it easier to start the day and spring out of bed with a smile.

Firstly I just wanted to say a massive thank you for everybody's terribly lovely comments on the Laundry Days photo shoot that I recently posted, they made me and Sinead so happy to read them- What can I say, we are suckers for flattery!

Secondly, on a recent mass scale delete through my email account I came across the funniest photo that one of my friends from Perth made a few years ago. It was originally suppose to be the design for a shirt we were making for our friend's going away party at the time, but the shirt never manifested and instead we just put it in a card instead.

Looking at it reminds me of being nineteen and spending the weekends at Amplifier Bar in Perth, our head's swirling with various chemicals and dancing like possessed cats until the sun came up- Ahhh to be nineteen again.

Does anybody else have some lovely teenage memories they would like to share and keep me amused with? Eh eh?

Scissorhands 20th

Happy Sunday Folks, I hope everybody is doing something delightful with the ending of the weekend- I'm in the midst of a lovely day of some serious rest and relaxation, but just wanted to quickly tell you all about this wonderful project I read about recently!

So like a lot of people out there, I am a massive fan of Tim Burton's masterpiece Edward Scissorhands. I grew up with this timeless tale of love and beauty, and it had been one of my favourite films since I was a wee bonny lass- from which also springs my life long crush on the painfully handsome Johnny Depp *drool*.

So you can imagine how happy I was to read about this recent project organised by Seb Mesnard, an illustrator based in France, who in honour of the films 20th anniversary, asked some of his artist friends to contribute their interpretations of the film to a tribute blog called Scissorhands 20th.

Make sure you check it out! It is truly very magnificent!

Five For Friday - Part 2

Another week, another Friday- I've decided to do another Five for Friday post since I actually had a lot of fun making the last one and I'm thinking of making it a somewhat semi-permanent thing on Disappear Here- because lets face it, you never run out of things to like right? And I think it sums up the week rather nicely for me. Enjoy!

1. Paper Moon Photo Booths - Around the start of the century these photo booths were apparently found at a lot of carnivals and boardwalks as a fun way to have your photo taken- how lovely are the photo’s though? I’m definitely going to try a photo shoot like this someday…

2.
I'll Try Anything Once By The Strokes - So even though this song isn't exactly new, It’s become a habit of late for me and my room mate to play this song every weekend, particularly in the mornings when we are feeling a little shady from the previous nights adventures. Perfect hangover song and Julian Casablancas could have one of the nicest voices I know, so lovely. Listen Here .

3. American Apparel High Waisted Jeans - So for anybody else who too knows the difficulty of finding a good pair of high waisted jeans, you will know the excitement I felt when I came across these new jean designs by American Apparel. *Drool*

4.
This Following Sentence - from a post that Holly from the blog Holly and the Wolves posted this week, not sure why but it has kind of been stuck in my head this week, its sounds like something from a novel- very lovely yes?

Either way I just don't really want to be here this time. I wrote Toby a big long letter before I left, all about how all we have to do is weather the next six weeks in order to enjoy a really wonderful four months of summer together - but honestly I don't know why I didn't keep it, because I think I need reminding of that more than he does

5. This Photograph Of My Nanna - Because I grew up in a different state from my Grandmother I have less memories with her then I would like. So when I see old photographs of her like this I feel like it gives me some insight into to her personality and that makes me happy- she is the one with the cute headscarf at the front on the car.

Five For Friday

Happy Happy Friday Folks! Hope everyone has some swell things lined up for the weekend. Unfortunately for myself I have to work through another 12 hours before my weekend officially begins, seriously why did I think getting a second job sounded like a good idea? Ah the trials and tribulations of a pauper with champagne taste. Any who to wrap up the week and keep my spirits up I've composed a lovely little list of things that are making me smile at the moment. Enjoy!

1. When somebody uses the phrase or any variation off the phrase “Well this was a gong show” – Reason unknown, just makes me chuckle every time.

2. This Photo of The Beatles - So terribly wonderful with the Eiffel Tower peeking through the mist in the background, how I have never come across this before this week is beyond me.

3. Complete strangers holding the door open for you – Well really I just like everyday politeness, but holding the door open for people is on the top of my list for etiquette's.

4. The idea of hosting / attending an outside dinner party - preferably in a whimsical setting like this.

5. Tip Toe Through The Tulips by Tiny Tim – I have had this song in my head since watching Insidious last weekend. It’s so damn lovely, makes me want to learn to play the ukulele. Listen Here.

Happy Weekend Lads & Lassies!

Annie Leibovitz Is The Cat's Pajamas

I remember being at a friends house once in Highschool and looking through her mother's bookshelf of wonderful gems, one of these such gems being a massive book of photographs from Rolling Stone Magazine over the years, which I instantly fell in love with.

Whist flicking though the pages I noticed that a lot of the photo's I took a particular liking to were by a lady named Annie Leibovitz- thus beginning my love affair with the work of the lovely Miss Leibovitz and a new secret desire to one day be a photographer.

Her photo's are magic!

Technicolour Dreams

Don't you just love the look of films in Technicolour! It makes everything look so vibrant and so much more theatrical, almost bordering on animated even.

I wish everyday looked like this, then everyone would be happy- how could you not be happy with a life in Technicolour?

From Auckland With Love

Today at work when the friendly mail man came to drop off the days deliveries, I was over-joyed to find that there was a parcel with my name on it all the way from New Zealand- who may the sender of such a delightful parcel be you may ask? Why my beautiful sister Emmily of course!

Now lets take a closer look at whats inside...
