Bound For Montreal

And now it is time for me to pop the cork off that champagne bottle and head off to the picturesque city of Montreal for four lovely days of exploration and tomfoolery! The City of Saints, La Belle Ville, La Metropole. The home place of Leonard Cohen, Arcade Fire and Rufus Wainwright. Sweet sweet Montreal!

So now whilst I finish packing my bags and brushing up on my barely-existent french vocabulary, I bid you all a happy Easter weekend whatever your celebrations may be and I'll be back with some awesome photo's soon!

What A Day For A Daydream

Salutations Everyone! On this rainy Wednesday morning whilst I vie to keep my mind from wandering to thoughts of tap dancing kittens and opera singing parakeets, I thought I would share a few more photographs from my recent day trip to Toronto island.

So a while ago my friend / room mate, Sinead, introduced me to this little gem by Tom Waits and I have been listening to it on repeat ever since. I think it is kind of perfect in it's simplicity- Tom Waits truly is one of a kind.

Lackluster Hair & Demon Chicken

Just another Manic Monday. I hope everybody's weekend was a bit more exciting then mine, which consisted mainly of sleeping off the flu, watching Scream 4 at the theatre and me and Sinead trying to save a few dollars by cutting out a trip to the hairdresser's and preening our own locks at home- the latter of which had mixed results.

I could probably count the amount of times I have coloured my hair at home on one hand over the last few years and it is not because I don't think people can successfully dye their own locks, but because I find going to a salon just takes the guess work out of achieving your desired colour and tones- assuming you have a good hairdresser of course.

But as it goes I decided to try it anyway, so I headed over to the Beauty Supply Outlet, which is a store that carries professional salon products available to the public, and went with a dye from Wella called Colour Charm. On the advice of the stylist, I decided to mix two different colours- one called Apricot and the other called Red Titan Blonde.

The results are somewhat subtle, but it has still evened out my fading colour which is what I was hoping for. The real tragedy of this story though is my failed attempt at trimming my own bangs- I got a little scissor happy and it is now dreadfully short. Lets hope it grows back asap.

Five For Friday - Part 2

Another week, another Friday- I've decided to do another Five for Friday post since I actually had a lot of fun making the last one and I'm thinking of making it a somewhat semi-permanent thing on Disappear Here- because lets face it, you never run out of things to like right? And I think it sums up the week rather nicely for me. Enjoy!

1. Paper Moon Photo Booths - Around the start of the century these photo booths were apparently found at a lot of carnivals and boardwalks as a fun way to have your photo taken- how lovely are the photo’s though? I’m definitely going to try a photo shoot like this someday…


2. I'll Try Anything Once By The Strokes - So even though this song isn't exactly new, It’s become a habit of late for me and my room mate to play this song every weekend, particularly in the mornings when we are feeling a little shady from the previous nights adventures. Perfect hangover song and Julian Casablancas could have one of the nicest voices I know, so lovely. Listen Here .

3. American Apparel High Waisted Jeans - So for anybody else who too knows the difficulty of finding a good pair of high waisted jeans, you will know the excitement I felt when I came across these new jean designs by American Apparel. *Drool*


4. This Following Sentence - from a post that Holly from the blog Holly and the Wolves posted this week, not sure why but it has kind of been stuck in my head this week, its sounds like something from a novel- very lovely yes?

“Either way I just don't really want to be here this time. I wrote Toby a big long letter before I left, all about how all we have to do is weather the next six weeks in order to enjoy a really wonderful four months of summer together - but honestly I don't know why I didn't keep it, because I think I need reminding of that more than he does”

5. This Photograph Of My Nanna - Because I grew up in a different state from my Grandmother I have less memories with her then I would like. So when I see old photographs of her like this I feel like it gives me some insight into to her personality and that makes me happy- she is the one with the cute headscarf at the front on the car.

Cemetery Junction

With the end of the week nearing and the weekend well in sight, I woke up this morning to find myself with a small case of the sniffles- which I find laughable considering I went through the majority of the freezing Toronto winter unscathed and now that the sun is starting to peek its little head out again I finally get the sniffles.

But enough about that, I wanted to talk about a film I watched last night at a friends house- called Cemetery Junction. It is the latest feat from Ricky Gervais & Stephen Merchant, who are obviously best known for their hilarious television shows The Office and Extras. The film is a coming of age type story set in the 70's that follows three best friends, who live in a suburb in Reading called Cemetery Junction, as they try to figure out who they are and what they want to do with their lives.

Although the actual storyline is nothing that hasn't been done before I still thoroughly enjoyed watching the film. Quite funny and heartfelt in parts, it is the kind of film that makes you nolstagic for your youth- even if your only twenty two like me. Being set in the 1970's, the cloths are wonderful! And the soundtrack is pretty awesome also, complete with some Bowie and Zeppelin. Very nice film indeed.

A Plan To Fight Boredom

Being in a state of stagnation can be a stifling thing, when you are waking up everyday and knowing how the day ahead is most likely going to turn out, then it makes it harder to really enjoy everything that this life has to offer. It is like reading a book when somebody has ruined the ending for you- you keep reading because its still enjoyable enough, but you know what its all leading up to ultimately and so the excitement for the unknown is gone.

This is why I always have plans coming out of my ears, to keep me motivated and amused at the same time. Plans that have been in my head for years but I am yet to achieve, plans that border on daydreams that I know will probably never take place but I formalize how I still might make them happen anyway and plans that maybe cropped up out of nowhere but I still start organizing for them straight away as to make sure they do happen. If I did not have them and everyday looked the same, then I would no doubt turn into a miserable, self-pitying, pessimistic bore who would constantly be thinking to myself Woe is me, why is life so boring?

So on that note I have decided to let you all in on three lovely little trips that I have been planning that will take place over the next few months to shake up my everyday routine a little bit for the better. Does anyone else have some nice getaways planned?

Montreal in April

That’s right in two weeks I shall finally visit the place that originally made me want to move to Canada in the first place, the picturesque city of Montreal.

Algonquin Park in May

Hiring a car with a group of friends and driving out to stay in a log cabin for a few nights within the acres of Algonquin Park sounds like a good time to me. Surrounded by Forrest, Lakes, Animals and starry skies… sounds lush.

New York In June

The newest edition to my always-changing list of plans! I just cannot seem to stay away from this amazing city and so what better way to spend my birthday then immersed in it’s bright lights and buzzing streets.
