Its always the times I'm left alone too long, the times I'm left to delve into my own mind's endless barrel of thoughts. Thoughts about the past, thoughts of the things that I have done that lead me to those different situations, thoughts on how I could have changed the way things turned out if I had maybe been a different person to who I really am.
And as I watch the clothes that seem to spin forever behind their glass protector, I'm taken back to that room where I sat staring out a fourth floor window onto the streets below and how I wished I could trade places with any of the people I watched out there, even for a few moments, and I see a sign in the distance that says 'Be Happy' and I think to myself how fitting it seems as I'm choking back tears that I refuse to let escape out of me. Not today, not now.
I wait and I hear people saying my name in the hall, but I know better then to interrupt them. And I think about how I was once told by a complete stranger on the bus that I was a real classy lady, a picture of class, and I laugh- I laugh because classy ladies didn't end up in places like this, no classy ladies avoided these places like the plague and not because they are trying to, but because their natural class would see to it that they never did.
A song starts on a distant radio somewhere, one I've never heard and I think how that in normal circumstances I probably would have liked the song, I probably would have listened for a line that I could jot down to look up later and find out the name of it. But I don't jot down any lines today, I never want to hear the song again after this.
And I wait.

Ice Ice Baby
On Sunday it was decided that being our first weekend back in Toronto Sinead, Brendan, Homan and myself would do some form of an iconic Winter activity to try and get into the swing of things for the colder months ahead. Plus I had previously spent in large part the prior three days knocked out on Cold and Flu medicine and needed to salvage at least one day of the weekend before I had to return to work. So we decided on Ice Skating at an outside rink on Queen Street.
I could probably count the amount of times I have been Ice Skating in my life on one hand, what can I say I was always more of a roller skates kinda girl, but of these previous times I did not remember looking so painfully awkward and uncoordinated whilst skimming along the ice- There were children under five that looked more graceful skating then me. But not to worry, I left the rink with a smile on my face and a new found respect for Professional Ice Skaters.

Bowled Over
Being our last day in Perth, we decided that bowling seemed like a good way to spend the afternoon, so off to Rosemount Bowls I headed with my sisters to indulge in a few games before our good-bye family picnic that evening.
After a terribly bad start for myself, I ended up winning the first game and taking second place for the next one- Not bad for one that bowls so little.
Back In Snowy Toronto
And as quickly as it began, my holiday in the sun came to an end and I was on the plane that would take me back to Toronto. All in all my trip back home was awesome, way too short though and by the time I was really starting to appreciate what I had been missing out on all these months, it all disappeared into the abyss again.
So now I am moved into my new house living with Sinead, Sam and Liam, I go back to work as of Monday and I've developed a nasty little case of the sniffles to welcome me back to Toronto. And what do I do when said sniffles occur you may ask- I simply curl up in bed with an even amount of fashion and music magazines and drift off until I'm feeling right as rain once more.

Auld Lang Syne
And so ends another year! I hope everyone rung in the New Year with some wonderfully wicked celebrations! For myself the evening was spent starting the night at a small gathering at the Sheraton Hotel and then heading out to one of my old Perth haunts- Amplifier Bar.
It's had been close to two years since I had last been to Amplifier, or Amps as it is affectionately dubbed, and the return was bittersweet- same setting, same music, different people. Within moments of walking in I witnessed a girl screaming at the top of her lungs at what I can only assume was an ex-boyfriend and then towards the end of a night when I was dancing with my friends, I was asked if I was a lesbian by an neanderthal who couldn't seem to comprehend why else I would not want to dance with him.
But not to bitch, I did after all still have an awesome night and met some lovely people along the way. I am sure going to miss these summer nights once I return to Toronto in a few days. Happy New Year Folks!
